How to take care of your skin the fall

This week I would like to give you some advice how to take care of your skin the fall. As the season changing and it is getting colder unfortunately our air getting dryer in our homes due to heating season. Humidifier is a great idea to keep humidity at least 40% at all times. Generally speaking, cleansing our face twice a day is ideal, the morning cleansing should be gentle, using a milk cleanser for example. The night cleansing should be very thorough, making sure to remove all traces of make-up and oil. This cleanser can be also a cream or gel cleanser for dry or normal skin types, or a gel or medicated cleanser for oily and acne prone skin. Follow cleansing with a toner for additional moisture and with a serum for your skin type. A hydrating serum containing hylauronic acid is always a good choice for its moisture binding capability. This should be followed with a light moisturizer which is able to quickly absorb into your skin. If your moisturizer too heavy or greasy it will clog your pores and cause comedones (black heads) and acne.  So always shop for your skin type. If not sure about your skin type ask for a complementary skin care analysis at your spa. We should also increase the frequency of exfoliation because the skin cells die faster in a dry climate, leading to clogged pores, acne or feeling dry, and looking dull. Professional exfoliation is also greatly beneficial, so visit your esthetician weekly for a Glycolic acid  or AHA peel. I call these lunch time peels, because it only takes about 15 min. and you can return to work looking more fresh and glowing. These peels are gentle enough, so they do not cause irritation or peeling. They can be done in a series of 6-12 treatments, benefits are: refining fine lines and wrinkles, lightening sun damage spots or melanoma. Chemical peels are more aggressive, they might require a little recovery time up to 10 days. These peels will bring a faster result than the lunch time peels, but strictly need to avoid sun, heat, and water like swimming pool or sauna till the peeling is completely finished. After exfoliating the face (at least 2-3 times a week) may apply a hydrating mask. This will feed the newly exposed skin with nutrients and moisture. If you have any question let me know, happy fall! Hugs, Ika
